Project: Shore an excavation to facilitate underground fuel tank installation adjacent to multi story buildings.
Challenges: Because of the proximity to a multi-story building, and the overall size of the proposed excavation, it was necessary to design and install a shoring system which would provide lateral support to the adjacent structure, protect workers, and provide sufficient maneuverability within the excavation to install the tanks.
MJK Solution: MJK developed a shoring plan which accommodated the lateral forces, and provided workable access. This plan was submitted to an independent engineering firm for review and approval. MJK installed a beam and sheet shoring system which provided access, but also allowed for easy removal during backfill operations.
